What happens in the Lantern-Lit Christmas village?
Lantern-Lit Christmas follows one small village through its Christmas errands, and the animals in it are caught mid-task rather than posed for the wall. A fox walks a snowy lane by lantern light, a rabbit and a duckling post a letter through a red postbox, and further along a bear stands on a tree stump to hang the last star while a rabbit passes up the ornaments. A market stall does its last trade of the day, a bakery counter sells gingerbread, and a rabbit and a duckling decorate a gingerbread house at an outdoor table by lantern light.
Santa turns up more than once across the set — standing beside his red car while a fox ties a tree to its roof, at the postbox with a fox and a rabbit, reading by his own fireside while a rabbit and a duckling watch and a fox sleeps on the rug, and finally driving a reindeer sleigh loaded with gifts and two small passengers. Elsewhere the villagers skate a moonlit pond, pull a gift-laden sledge into the village, cut paper snowflakes at a round window, and a toy train crosses a stone viaduct on its way home.

How does the light change across the sixteen landscapes?
Twelve of the sixteen wide landscapes are lit by moonlight and four catch the sky at sunset instead — Santa and a fawn cross a stone bridge as the sky turns orange, and an owl and a fawn cross a second stone bridge in the same light. In the moonlit ones, mice row a star-strung boat across a still pond, a hedgehog carries a lantern past a cluster of toadstools, and a rabbit and a duckling cross a wooden bridge under the moon. A bear sleeps in a hammock strung between two trees with the tree lights still glowing behind him, an owl keeps watch at a lit treehouse window, and in one last print, Santa's sleigh is already airborne, crossing a sky full of stars above the sleeping rooftops.
